Dhaka, Jul 09 (V7N)- The Election Commission (EC) has announced that the updated final voter list will be published on August 31 in preparation for the upcoming local government elections.
The directive has already been sent to all upazila, thana and registration election officers through an official letter signed by EC Senior Assistant Secretary Md. Nasir Uddin Chowdhury.
According to the letter, the Commission has initiated the voter list update process under the Voter List Act, 2009, with July 31, 2008, set as the eligibility date under Section 3(h) of the law.
The EC has also approved a detailed timetable covering the publication of the draft voter list, submission of claims and objections, disposal of applications and publication of the final voter list.
Under the schedule:

August 4: Deadline for preparing the PDF version of the updated draft voter list and sending the link to the respective registration officers.

August 9: Publication of the draft voter list.

August 24: Deadline for submitting claims, objections and correction applications.

August 27: Deadline for disposal of claims, objections and correction applications by the designated authorities.

August 28: Deadline for incorporating approved corrections into the voter database.

August 31: Publication of the updated final voter list.
The Election Commission has also directed field officials to raise public awareness throughout the updating process.
According to the instructions, announcements will be made before or after prayers at mosques, temples and other places of worship, requesting citizens to examine the printed draft voter list and submit applications to correct any errors.
The EC has further instructed local election offices to work with local journalists and cable television operators to publicize the voter list update process and encourage public participation.
