Dhaka, July 28 (V7N)- The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Traffic Division has planned to install artificial intelligence (AI)-based cameras and ‘plug and play’ cameras across the capital to improve traffic management.
DMP Traffic Division Additional Commissioner Anisur Rahman said a plan has already been taken to purchase 1,000 such cameras.
He shared the information at the inauguration ceremony of a new traffic signal project at Mohammadpur Bus Stand in Dhaka on Tuesday (July 28) morning.
Anisur Rahman said that currently 37 AI cameras are operating at 16 locations in the capital. Plans are underway to install around 50 more AI cameras at different points.
He added that 1,000 low-cost plug-and-play cameras will also be installed to bring discipline to road traffic and monitor violations more effectively.
The DMP official said that if immediate case filing is not possible through these cameras, law enforcement authorities will be able to review recorded footage later and take necessary action.
Meanwhile, he said that more than 50,000 cases are filed every month for various traffic violations in Dhaka. These cases generate an average of around Tk 12 crore in fines monthly.
According to him, the Traffic Division deposits around Tk 120 crore annually into the government treasury from traffic-related fines.
