Narayanganj, Aug 18 (V7N)- Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has said the installation of artificial intelligence (AI)-powered cameras on highways will help restore discipline and reduce extortion in the transport sector.
He made the remarks while inaugurating the Auto Super Fine System AI Camera in the Meghnaghat area of Sonargaon on the Dhaka-Chittagong Highway on Tuesday (August 18) afternoon.
The Home Minister said the cameras would record incidents of extortion occurring on highways, whether involving transport owners or workers.
He also said three-wheelers would not be allowed to operate on the main highway. They will instead be permitted to operate in markets, filling stations and designated pedestrian roads.
Action will be taken against three-wheelers if they violate the instructions, he added.
According to the Home Minister, the AI camera system will automatically identify various traffic violations, including overspeeding, illegal parking and driving on the wrong side of the road.
Once a violation is detected, information about the case and a fine notice will be sent to the mobile phone of the vehicle's registered owner.
The vehicle owner will then be able to pay the fine from home without having to visit a government office.
Authorities expect the automated monitoring system to strengthen enforcement of traffic laws, improve highway discipline and make road transportation safer.
