Dhaka, Sep 26 (V7N)- Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has warned that legal action will be taken against police personnel found maintaining contact with fugitive individuals and providing them with sensitive information.
He made the remarks on Saturday at a Police Week medal-awarding ceremony held at Rajarbagh Police Lines in the capital.
A total of 92 police personnel received Bangladesh Police Medal (BPM) and President Police Medal (PPM) awards at the ceremony.
Salahuddin Ahmed said some individuals who left the country continue to issue threats from abroad. He warned that any attempt to destabilize Bangladesh would be dealt with firmly.
The home minister also said rewards would be provided to individuals whose efforts help bring wanted members of the former ruling Awami League and its associated groups to justice.
He said police personnel involved in providing information to such individuals would face action under applicable laws, including sedition provisions where relevant.
Salahuddin Ahmed also announced that a separate cyber unit would be formed next week to strengthen efforts against cybercrime. The unit will be headed by an Additional Inspector General of Police.
He urged police personnel to perform their duties with greater courage, integrity and dedication.
The minister made the remarks as the police marked Police Week with the recognition of personnel for their service and contributions.
