Dhaka, Sep 30 (V7N)- President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has urged China to increase investment in Bangladesh and strengthen cooperation to create conditions for the safe, dignified and sustainable repatriation of Rohingyas.
He made the remarks during a meeting with outgoing Chinese Ambassador Yao Wen at Bangabhaban on Wednesday.
Praising China’s role in addressing the Rohingya crisis, the president said Chinese initiatives could contribute to resolving the crisis and ensuring sustainable repatriation.
He called for greater Chinese investment and cooperation in several sectors, including ready-made garments, electric vehicles, light engineering, high-tech electronics, semiconductors and solar energy.
The president also welcomed regional connectivity initiatives, including the Kunming-Chittagong Corridor and the China-Myanmar-Bangladesh Economic Corridor.
He said Bangladesh is prepared to work with China and other relevant partners to advance such initiatives based on mutual interests.
Mirza Fakhrul highlighted the modernisation and expansion of Mongla Port and the establishment of a China Economic and Industrial Zone as important initiatives for improving connectivity, industrialisation and economic development.
He said the visits of late President Ziaur Rahman to China in 1977 and 1980, as well as his own visit to China in April 2026 and meetings with Chinese leaders and students, had contributed to strengthening bilateral relations.
The president expressed hope that Bangladesh-China relations would become stronger and more consolidated in the coming days.
