Chattogram, Oct 14 (V7N)- Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has said the government has no immediate plans to launch Operation Clean Heart, adding that law enforcement agencies are working to curb crime across the country.
He made the remarks while speaking to reporters after inaugurating the Cyber Police Centre at Dampara Police Lines in Chattogram on Wednesday afternoon.
Asked about the possibility of sabotage in December, the minister said maintaining law and order remained a government responsibility, but he did not consider the situation a challenge.
Salahuddin Ahmed said the Cyber Police Centre, built at a cost of around Tk 600 million with assistance from South Korea, would play an important role in modernising the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
“Crime patterns have changed in the modern world. Various crimes, including scams, stock market manipulation and fraud, are increasing in cyberspace,” he said.
The government plans to establish modern laboratories in every division to help combat cybercrime, he added. The facilities are expected to strengthen efforts to prevent online blackmail, financial fraud, drug and arms trafficking, and terrorist activities.
The South Korean ambassador to Bangladesh, the Inspector General of Police and senior law enforcement officials attended the inauguration ceremony.
