The ruling party Awami League has formed a new government after getting a single majority in the 12th National Parliament elections. The first parliament session started at 3 pm with the MPs of the new parliament. Deputy Speaker Advocate Md. Shamsul Haque Tuku is presiding over the session.

Awami League government party with absolute majority with 223 seats of this Parliament and Jatiya Party with only 11 seats is playing the role of opposition party. However, even though the number of seats is less, Jatiya Party MPs said that the members of Jatiya Party are playing the role of an effective opposition party in Parliament. However, independent members of parliament who won 62 seats are almost 6 times more than them.

Election of Speaker and Deputy Speaker will be held at the beginning of the session. A condolence proposal will then be raised. Before the first session of the new MPs in the twelfth Parliament, the President MD. Sahabuddin will deliver a speech . He will make a directive speech in the session about the success of the government and future actions. Later, members of the government and opposition parties will discuss the motion of thanks brought on that speech in the whole session. It is said that some important bills may be passed in this session.

Earlier, the President convened the first session of Parliament in 2024 under the powers conferred by Article 72(1) of the Constitution.
