Dhaka, August 24— Severe flooding has left at least 12 districts, including Feni, Noakhali, Comilla, and Brahmanbaria, submerged, affecting millions of people who are now struggling without basic necessities such as food and shelter. In response to this sudden crisis, a wave of support has emerged from various quarters, with individuals and organizations providing food, clothing, medicine, and cash donations to aid the flood victims.

The Anti-Discrimination Student Movement has taken a central role in coordinating relief efforts at the Teacher-Student Centre (TSC) of Dhaka University. On Saturday morning, relief coordinators reported that their funds had swelled to over 1 crore 42 lakh rupees within a single day. They have urged anyone willing to contribute to transfer funds via bKash to the number 01886969859.

“We are receiving a lot of donations, but there is an urgent need for mats for people staying in shelters,” said a coordinator. “We are currently facing a shortage of mats, so we encourage those who wish to donate to consider providing these essential items.”

The relief coordinators also highlighted that while many are generously sending medicines, some are sending antibiotics, which can only be administered with a doctor's supervision. "We urge donors to send over-the-counter medicines for common cold, cough, and fever instead," they advised, emphasizing the importance of ensuring safety in medical care provided by volunteers.

It was also announced during a press conference that the Anti-Discrimination Movement is dispatching doctors alongside volunteers to assist in the relief efforts, ensuring that medical assistance is provided under proper supervision.

As the floodwaters continue to wreak havoc, the community’s collective response highlights the spirit of solidarity and resilience in the face of adversity. Relief efforts are ongoing, with many more people expected to contribute in the coming days.
