Dhaka, September 01 — Rezaul Karim Mallik has been appointed as the new head of the Intelligence Branch (DB) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP). The appointment was made official through an office order signed by DMP Commissioner Mainul Hasan on Sunday.

Rezaul Karim Mallik, who holds the rank of Additional Commissioner of Police in DMP, has been transferred to his new role as Additional Commissioner of Police, DB. According to the office order, this transfer is to be implemented immediately.

Mallik, a distinguished officer from the 17th Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) Police batch, joined the Bangladesh Police in 1998. Throughout his career, he has served in various important roles across multiple districts, including Dhaka. Known for his integrity and dedication, Mallik has been recognised for his commitment to his duties, even though he faced career setbacks due to his adherence to honest practices. His new appointment as the head of the DB marks a significant step in his career within the DMP.

The position of DB head was previously held by Mohammad Haroon Or Rashid, who was appointed in July 2022. However, Haroon has reportedly been missing since the fall of the Awami League government on August 5, leading to the appointment of Mallik as his successor.

In a separate development on Sunday, the Ministry of Home Affairs issued a notification signed by Deputy Secretary of the Public Security Department (Police-1 Branch), Mahabur Rahman Sheikh, announcing the transfer of 42 officers at the rank of Deputy Inspector General (DIG) and Additional DIG of Bangladesh Police. This reshuffle is part of a broader effort to reorganize the police leadership in response to the changing political landscape.
