Dhaka, Sep 20 (V7N) – Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Detective Lalbagh Division Deputy Commissioner Mashiur Rahman, recently promoted to Additional Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police, has been arrested in connection with multiple murder cases. Joint Commissioner of Police (Detective Branch) Rabiul Alam Bhuiyan confirmed the arrest to the media on Friday morning.

According to the police, Mashiur Rahman is facing charges in eight separate murder cases. He had been serving in the Detective Branch (DB) of DMP for an extended period, most recently as Deputy Commissioner (DC) of the Lalbagh Zone. Prior to this, he was stationed in the Gulshan Detective Division, where he also held a key role for several years.

Following the fall of the government on August 5, Mashiur Rahman was transferred from his role in DB to the Chittagong Range DIG office on August 13, where he was attached as Superintendent of Police.

Mashiur Rahman’s career had been decorated with multiple honours, including the Rashtrapati Police Medal (PPM) in 2013, the Bangladesh Police Medal (BPM) in 2015 and 2019, and the prestigious IGP Exemplary Good Services Badge on four occasions. He was also awarded the Shuddhachar Award for the year 2022-23 on June 29.

The arrest has drawn significant attention due to Rahman’s high profile within the DMP and his previously decorated service record. Further investigations into the charges are expected.
