Textiles and Jute Minister Jahangir Kabir Nanak emphasized Bangladesh's pivotal role in the global garment industry during the closing ceremony of the 16th Bangladesh Denim Expo. Held at the International Convention City Bashundhara (ICCB) Hall-4, the event showcased Bangladesh's prominence as a leading manufacturer of denim products.

Minister Nanak lauded the Bangladesh Denim Expo as a significant platform that highlights the country's achievements in denim production. With participation from over 60 companies from 13 countries, the expo underscores Bangladesh's growing influence in the global denim market.

Highlighting the garment industry's crucial role in Bangladesh's economy, Minister Nanak stated that it accounts for 84 percent of the country's export income, with apparel exports surpassing $47 billion last year. With approximately 4 million workers, of which 65 percent are women, the garment sector directly and indirectly supports the livelihoods of around 20 million people in Bangladesh.

Moreover, Minister Nanak emphasized Bangladesh's commitment to sustainable practices in garment manufacturing, boasting the largest number of green garment factories globally. He urged garment buyers to recognize Bangladesh as a destination for ethically produced clothing, emphasizing the industry's resilience and adaptability in the face of challenges.

The event saw the presence of esteemed guests, including Ambassador of the Netherlands to Bangladesh Irma van Duren, former president of BGMEA Siddiqur Rahman, current president S.M. Mannan Kochi, and H&M Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Ethiopia Regional Head Ziaur Rahman, among others.

The Denim Expo serves as a testament to Bangladesh's position as a key player in the global textile industry, showcasing its commitment to innovation, sustainability, and ethical manufacturing practices.
