Savar, June 30 (V7N) - Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-4) has rescued Mahira Binte Maruf Puli, a Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) candidate, from Savar after she went missing for nearly 16 hours. The student had reportedly left her residence in the capital’s Bashundhara Residential Area on Sunday morning to attend an HSC exam but never arrived at the exam center.
According to her family, Mahira left home around 8:00 AM on June 29 to appear for the scheduled exam. When she did not return home even after the exam was over, her family grew increasingly concerned. Upon contacting the examination center, they were informed that Mahira had not appeared for the exam at all. Alarmed, the family lodged a General Diary (GD) with Vatara Police Station later that day.
Based on a statement from RAB, Mahira recounted a disturbing experience following her recovery. She said that shortly after leaving her home, she was approached by an unknown woman. The woman allegedly applied something to Mahira’s nose, after which she lost consciousness. Mahira later regained awareness in a secluded location in Savar.
She reported that after regaining consciousness, the woman gave her a change of clothes and instructed her to put them on. Seizing the opportunity, Mahira managed to escape from the area and fled through a nearby wooded area. While running toward the main road, she spotted a patrol vehicle belonging to RAB-4. Mahira narrated the entire incident to the officers, who then took her into protective custody and safely returned her to her family.
While Mahira’s account provides a troubling glimpse into the incident, RAB has stated that they have not yet verified the full accuracy of her claims. Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the facts and identify those possibly involved in her disappearance.
This incident has raised serious concerns about the safety of students commuting to exams, especially female candidates, and underscores the need for increased vigilance and security in urban and suburban areas.
