Dhaka, Jul 10 (V7N)- The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall across much of the country over the next 24 hours, warning of possible waterlogging in major cities and landslides in hilly regions due to active monsoon conditions.
In a heavy rainfall warning issued at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, Meteorologist Dr. Md. Omar Faruk said parts of Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions are likely to experience significant rainfall during the next 24 hours.
According to the bulletin, heavy rainfall is defined as 44 to 88 millimetres within 24 hours, while very heavy rainfall refers to more than 88 millimetres over the same period.
The BMD warned that the anticipated rainfall could lead to temporary waterlogging in low-lying areas of Dhaka and Chattogram metropolitan cities.
The department also cautioned that landslides may occur in parts of the hilly areas of Chattogram Division as prolonged rainfall continues to saturate the soil.
The Meteorological Department has advised residents in the affected areas to remain alert, take necessary safety precautions and avoid unnecessary travel to landslide-prone hilly regions until weather conditions improve.
