Dhaka, April 26 (V7N)- The High Court Division of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh has set a final six-month deadline for submitting the investigation report in the long-pending murder case of journalist couple Sagar Sarwar and Meherun Runi.
The order was issued on Sunday (April 26) by a bench comprising Justice Fatema Najib and Justice Saiful Karim.
Despite repeated deadlines, the high-level task force formed to investigate the case has once again failed to submit a final report. Following this, lawyers Shishir Monir and Manzil Morshed, representing the writ petitioners, sought court intervention, including a request to summon the investigation officer.
During the hearing, the court was informed that a progress report had been submitted. However, Ruhul Quddus Kajal sought additional time to submit the full investigation report.
Although the petitioners proposed a three-month deadline, the court granted six months, describing it as the final extension.
The Attorney General acknowledged the prolonged delay, stating that it is “painful” that even after 13 years, no chargesheet has been submitted in the widely discussed case.
Earlier, on October 23 last year, another High Court bench had also granted a six-month deadline to the task force to complete the investigation.
The murder of Sagar Sarwar and Meherun Runi remains one of the most high-profile unresolved cases in Bangladesh, drawing repeated concern from journalists and rights groups over delays in justice.
