Dhaka, Sep 13 (V7N)- The High Court has dismissed a writ petition challenging the legality of the government’s notification banning all activities of the Awami League and its affiliated organizations, ruling that the petition was not properly moved.
The petition was dismissed on Sunday after pro-Awami League lawyers appearing before the High Court raised questions about its maintainability and the petitioner’s standing.
The lawyers said Md. Al Amin, a resident of Srinagar in Munshiganj who filed the writ, was not affiliated with the Awami League and was not an aggrieved party. They also argued that the petition had not been filed or presented in accordance with proper legal procedures.
Following the arguments, the High Court dismissed the petition on the ground that it had not been properly presented before the court.
Md. Al Amin had filed the writ challenging the legality of a government notification issued on May 12, 2025, banning all activities of the Awami League and its various affiliated, associate and fraternal organizations.
The petition sought a rule asking why the May 12 notification should not be declared to have been issued without lawful authority.
It also sought a stay on the implementation of the notification until the disposal of the rule.
