Dhaka, August 2- In a significant development, a Dhaka court has granted bail to 42 Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) examinees who were arrested in connection with a case of sabotage during the quota reform movement. On Friday afternoon, Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Rashidul Alam granted bail to 37 of the students, while the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court granted bail to an additional five individuals.

The process of releasing the students from jail commenced promptly following the court's bail order. The decision to grant bail was met with relief and marked a positive turn for the detainees and their families.

This judicial decision follows a statement issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs on Thursday night. The ministry's press release indicated that the government would facilitate legal assistance for the release of detained HSC exam candidates on bail, provided they submit an application along with their exam admit cards and relevant documents. Furthermore, the government assured legal support for the bail of students who do not face serious charges.

The move to grant bail and provide legal aid is seen as an effort to address concerns about the detention of students and to ensure that those preparing for their HSC exams can continue their studies without hindrance. The Ministry of Home Affairs' announcement underscores the government's intention to distinguish between individuals involved in serious offenses and those who may have been caught up in the recent unrest without significant involvement.

The quota reform movement, which has seen widespread protests and occasional violence, has been a point of contention in recent months. The bail decision for the 42 HSC examinees reflects a nuanced approach by the judicial system and the government towards the ongoing tensions related to the movement.
