Dhaka, August 3- In a special initiative led by Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anisul Haque, 78 Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) examinees received bail from various courts across the country on Friday, a typically non-working day for the judiciary. The detainees, involved in cases linked to the ongoing violence and vandalism surrounding the quota reform movement, were released to ensure they can continue their education without interruption.

The breakdown of the released students includes 55 from Dhaka division, 14 from Chittagong division, six from Khulna division, and three from Rangpur division. This swift action followed directives from Minister Haque, who urged the prosecution teams nationwide to prioritize the bail applications of students, particularly those who were not directly involved in the violence.

Minister Haque emphasized the government's commitment to preventing innocent individuals, especially minors and students, from being wrongfully detained. He stated that while the judiciary operates independently, the prosecution team falls under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Law. Therefore, he instructed them to facilitate the bail process for HSC examinees and those not implicated in violent acts.

On Friday, bails were granted in various police stations within Dhaka, including six from Mirpur Model Police Station, five from Shahbag Police Station, five from Uttara West Police Station, and others from various localities.

This decision was preceded by a press release from the Ministry of Home Affairs on Thursday night, which outlined the government's intention to assist in the legal processes for detained students, especially HSC examinees. The release assured that legal support would be provided for their bail applications if they present their exam admit cards and relevant documents, emphasizing that the initiative was specifically aimed at those without serious charges.

The initiative marks a significant effort by the government to address the concerns surrounding the detention of students amidst the controversial quota reform movement, ensuring that the educational aspirations of the youth are safeguarded during times of civil unrest.
