Dhaka, August 22 – Senior BNP leader and member of the party's Standing Committee, Dr. Khandkar Mosharraf Hossain, has been acquitted of charges in a money laundering case. The verdict was delivered on Thursday by Judge Abul Kashem of Dhaka's Special Judge Court-1.

Dr. Mosharraf, who appeared in court to hear the decision, was acquitted as the charges brought against him were not proven.

The case, filed on February 6, 2014, by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) at Ramna Model Police Station, alleged that Dr. Mosharraf had misused his power while serving as a minister, engaging in corruption and laundering foreign currency amounting to Tk 9 crore 53 lakh 95 thousand. The ACC claimed that these funds were illegally earned and transferred to the United Kingdom.

Following the initial investigation, ACC Director Nasim Anwar submitted a charge sheet against Dr. Mosharraf on August 14, 2014. The court officially ordered the commencement of the trial on October 28, 2015.

After years of legal proceedings, the court ultimately ruled in favor of Dr. Mosharraf, citing insufficient evidence to support the allegations of money laundering.

This verdict marks a significant legal victory for Dr. Khandkar Mosharraf Hossain, who has consistently denied the charges. Following the ruling, BNP leaders and supporters have expressed their relief, hailing the court's decision as a vindication of Dr. Mosharraf's innocence.
