Mongla, Feb 27, (V7N) – The Coast Guard has arrested seven members of the notorious Hannan gang, including their leader Hannan, in the Sundarbans, along with firearms and sharp weapons. The arrest was made Thursday afternoon at the Khayaghat area of Rampal, Bagerhat.

According to Lieutenant Commander Anik Mahmud, Operations Officer of the Coast Guard West Zone (Mongla), the Hannan gang has been involved in various criminal activities in the Sundarbans, such as extortion, kidnapping, and intimidation of local fishermen. Based on intelligence reports, the Coast Guard carried out the operation and detained Hannan Sheikh (65), Rezaul Sheikh (53), Kamal Uddin Sheikh (54), Surat Mallik (47), Abu Taleb Khan (47), Hossain Ali Sheikh (55), and Habibur Rahman (55).

During the operation, two single-barrel guns and three machetes were seized from the arrested pirates. The Coast Guard has handed over the arrested individuals and their weapons to the Rampal Police Station for further legal action.
