Mongla, Oct 14 (V7N) – Police have arrested two individuals in connection with the death of a young man, Mahidul Sheikh, following a brutal assault in Mongla, Bagerhat District. The incident occurred early Monday morning on Kabarstan Road in Mongla municipality, reportedly over a previous dispute.

According to police, Mahidul Sheikh, a resident of Sonakhali village in Mithakhali Union and son of Hannan Sheikh, was attacked by Mahmud and Boni Sheikh. The assailants repeatedly struck Mahidul on the head with a wooden batam, leaving him unconscious at the scene. Local residents assisted in rushing him to the Upazila Health Complex, where his condition worsened. He was subsequently transferred to Khulna Medical College Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries late Monday night.

Police and locals stated that the attack stemmed from an altercation the previous week on Madrasa Road, Mongla, involving Mahidul and the two accused over an overtaking dispute involving a motorcycle and auto-rickshaw. Tensions from that earlier confrontation reportedly triggered Monday’s fatal assault.

Mongla Police Officer-in-Charge, Md. Anisur Rahman, confirmed that Mahmud and Boni Sheikh were taken into custody and initially sent to Bagerhat Jail under a case of assault. Authorities are now preparing to file a formal murder case against the accused.

The incident has sparked concern among local residents, highlighting issues of escalating personal disputes leading to fatal violence in the area.
