Rajshahi, Sep 14 (V7N) — Zahirul Islam Rubel, a local Juba League leader, has been detained by RAB for using two pistols to suppress a student protest against discrimination in Boalia, Rajshahi.

Rubel was arrested late Friday night (September 13) at 12:45 AM in Daudkandi, Comilla. A.N.M. Imran Khan, Assistant Director of RAB’s Legal and Media Affairs, confirmed the arrest.

Khan reported that Rubel is linked to an incident on August 5, during which he was seen attacking students and the public with firearms amid the anti-discrimination protest in Boalia.

Video footage showing Rubel wielding two pistols and firing at protesters at the Alupatti intersection in Boalia went viral on social media, provoking widespread criticism. Since the change in power, Rubel had been on the run.

The Rajshahi Metropolitan Police had previously highlighted the involvement of armed Awami League members in suppressing the protests. The recent arrest of Rubel in Daudkandi represents a key development in addressing this ongoing issue.
