Mongla, Oct 03 (V7N)- Seven Awami League leaders, including a former councilor of Mongla Port Municipality's Ward No. 3, were arrested by joint forces in a special operation carried out early Thursday morning. The arrests were made in connection with a case of extortion and fighting.
The arrested individuals are Md. Bahadur Mia, former councilor of Ward No. 3, Awami League leader Sheikh Golam Mawla Kakon, Salim Matubbar, Ashraful Alam Babu, Ibrahim Shikder Rajan, Monirul Islam, and Jubo League leader Humayun Kabir Palash.
Mongla Police Station Officer KM Azizul Islam confirmed the arrests, stating that the joint forces apprehended them from different locations early Thursday. The arrests were made following a case filed by a local resident, Babul Howladar, accusing the leaders of extortion and involvement in a fight.
Following the arrests, the accused were presented in court, and they have since been sent to jail through Bagerhat court proceedings.
