Kurigram, Oct 15 (V7N) – Two colleges in Kurigram district—Shailmari MR School and College in Roumari Upazila and Gopalpur ML High School and College in Nageshwari Upazila—have seen a 100 percent failure rate in this year’s Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) examination, confirmed the district’s Secondary Education Officer, Shamchul Alam .

In a shocking outcome, 1 candidate from Shailmari MR School and College and 6 candidates from Gopalpur ML High School and College appeared for the exams but none managed to pass. The complete failure of these institutions has raised concerns about the quality of education being provided.

"It is extremely disappointing to witness a 100 percent failure rate. These institutions are damaging the standard of education in the region. I have submitted this result to the Dinajpur Education Board and the Ministry of Education , and I strongly urge the government to take strict action against these schools," said Shamchul Alam , emphasizing the need for immediate reform.

The two colleges stand in stark contrast to the overall performance of Kurigram district, where 11,334 students appeared for the HSC exam, with 8,828 passing . This year’s pass rate for the district stands at a respectable 74.60 percent , with 903 students achieving the highest grade of GPA 5 .

Local educators and officials are awaiting the ministry’s response, with many expecting significant changes to ensure such results do not repeat in the future. The failure of these two colleges has put the spotlight on rural education challenges, prompting calls for immediate intervention.

As the district as a whole celebrates its overall success, these two colleges’ failure has brought attention to the broader need for educational improvements in certain areas of Kurigram.
