Ukhia, Nov 18 (V7N)- A total of 56 members of the Chakma and Barua communities have fled Myanmar's Rakhine state and entered Bangladesh through the Naiksyangchhari-Baishphadi border, citing escalating violence between the Arakan Army and government forces.

Among them, 12 individuals crossed the border last week, while 44 more arrived early Monday morning. The group, which includes men, women, and children, is currently residing near the Kutupalong Hindu Para, adjacent to the Rohingya refugee camp in Ukhia.

Naio Chakma (45), a resident of Medai in Myanmar’s Maungdaw township, described the dire situation:
"There is a massive clash ongoing between the Arakan Army and government forces. We lived in fear and had to hide in the mountains. With no access to food or safety, 44 members from 11 families of the Chakma community crossed into Bangladesh to save our lives."

Similarly, Babul Barua (47), another resident of Medai, stated:
"I fled to Kutupalong camp last week due to the conflict in my village. This morning, I am staying near the Hindu Para camp with other Chakma families who also fled Myanmar."

Ukhia Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) and acting UNO, Zareen Tasnim Tasin, confirmed the situation, saying:
"We have received reports of Chakma and Barua families infiltrating from Myanmar. They are currently staying near the Kutupalong Hindu Para camp. The matter has been communicated to higher authorities for necessary action."

The influx of Chakma and Barua families highlights the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Myanmar’s Rakhine state, where conflict has displaced thousands. Similar to the Rohingya exodus in 2017, these communities are seeking refuge in Bangladesh to escape violence and insecurity.

The situation calls for immediate attention from local authorities and international organizations to address the safety, shelter, and humanitarian needs of these displaced families. Bangladesh continues to face immense pressure as it provides shelter to a growing number of refugees fleeing violence in neighboring Myanmar.
