Jhalkathi, DEC 05, (V7N) - In a case involving the vandalism of the Rajapur Upazila BNP office, Barrister Shahjahan Omar, the former State Minister for Law, and four others have been arrested. On Thursday, Judicial Magistrate Court Judge Miruzul Islam Russell ordered their detention in jail.

At 3 PM on Thursday, Barrister Omar and the other defendants were brought to the Jhalkathi Chief Judicial Magistrate Court in a prison van. They were presented before the court around 3:30 PM. The other defendants included former chairman of Rajapur Upazila Parishad, Principal Moniruzzaman Monir, UP members Mo Russell and Tawheed, and former organizing secretary of District Chhatra League Tarikul Islam Suman.

On November 30, 2023, an application was filed to arrest Barrister Omar in connection with the vandalism of the Rajapur Upazila BNP office under the Explosives Control Act. Earlier, on November 21, Shahjahan Omar had gone to the Rajapur police station to file a case regarding the vandalism of his car. Later that day, he was arrested in connection with the attack on the BNP office in Kathalia.

The incident of vandalism took place on November 30, 2023, at the Rajapur Upazila BNP office. Following this, Talukdar Abul Kalam Azad, the President of Rajapur Upazila BNP, filed a case on November 22 under the Explosives Act, accusing 53 named individuals, including Barrister Omar, and 150 unknown individuals.

Defendant's lawyer Advocate Nasir Uddin Kabir stated that the police had applied for arrest in this explosive case. The court granted the petition and ordered the defendants to be sent to jail. He also informed the court that Barrister Shahjahan Omar was in Dhaka on the day of the incident.
