Rajshahi, Feb 21 (V7N) – An Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI), Sohail Rana, has been temporarily dismissed after being caught late at night in a woman's house in Rajshahi. On Wednesday evening, he was suspended and transferred to the police lines by the Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP).

ASI Sohail Rana was stationed at the Chandrima Police Station in Rajshahi. Earlier, on Tuesday night, locals caught Sohail Rana inside the woman’s house in the Satbariya area of the city and detained him. The locals beat him with sticks before informing the police. The Motihar police then rescued him and took him into custody.

Motihar Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abdul Malek said, "He was brought to the station and held in custody. Later, he was transferred to the police lines and sent to Chandrima Police Station."

RMP spokesperson and Additional Deputy Commissioner (Media) Sabina Yasmin confirmed that ASI Sohail had been temporarily dismissed and placed in police lines pending an investigation into the allegations. Appropriate departmental actions will follow after the investigation.

The woman, with whom Sohail Rana was found, lives at her father’s house. Her husband, a drug trafficker, was recently released on bail after spending about a year and a half in prison. During his imprisonment, she had been staying at her father’s home.
