Rangamati, Feb 27 (V7N) – Police have arrested Bishwajit Sagar, a student leader from the banned Chhatra League, during an operation called "Devil Hunt." The arrest was made late Monday night, confirmed the Kotwali police.
Bishwajit, a fourth-year student in the Computer Science and Engineering department at Rangamati University of Science and Technology (RUST), was reportedly involved in various terrorist activities, including the attacks in July and August of the previous year. He hails from the Longadu upazila in Rangamati but resides in the city’s Reserve Bazaar area.
Rangamati Kotwali police confirmed the arrest, adding that Bishwajit was directly involved in several violent activities. Students from RUST have reported that during his time as a leader of the Chhatra League under the previous fascist Awami League government, he harassed fellow students by checking their bodies and mobile phones for any content related to Islam or the BNP-Jamaat. If anything was found, he would immediately assault and abuse them.
His reign of terror left students at the university feeling oppressed. Bishwajit was also present for an academic exam on Monday at the university.
According to police sources, around 53 individuals have been arrested so far in Rangamati as part of Operation Devil Hunt.
