Netrakona, July 19 (V7N) - Residents of Salki Matikata village under Sormushia Union in Atpara Upazila, Netrakona district, are facing severe hardship due to the deteriorated condition of their village road, particularly during the monsoon season.
A field visit to the area revealed that the unpaved road begins from Shah Sultan Road, approximately 300 feet west of the Nasibpur turnoff on the Madan–Netrakona DC Road. The route passes in front of the home of Shahid Mia in Matikata village, continues past the local Jame Mosque, extends through Salki village to the residence of Nixon Master, and branches off toward the Asan Koli shrine and Eidgah grounds. Another stretch connects to the VC Road via the Sripur Bridge. Throughout these routes, the road becomes nearly impassable during the rainy season due to heavy mud, waterlogging, and erosion.
On Saturday morning, July 19, several local residents—including Md. Ekdil Mia, Md. Kamal Hossain, Shahidul Alam, Swapan Mia, and Jahangir Alam—shared their ongoing struggles. They reported serious difficulty in transporting patients to town, sending children to schools and colleges, and moving locally harvested agricultural goods to nearby markets. The poor road conditions have led to frequent accidents, and residents claim that marriage negotiations for their children have even fallen through due to the village’s poor accessibility.
They emphasized that the current state of the road has socially and economically isolated their community, putting them at a disadvantage compared to neighboring areas. Residents are urging the relevant authorities to take immediate action to pave and reconstruct the road to ensure safe transportation and improve the region’s overall development prospects.
The situation underscores a broader issue of rural infrastructure neglect in Bangladesh, where thousands of villages continue to suffer due to lack of all-weather roads, especially during monsoon months when accessibility becomes a major barrier to education, healthcare, and livelihoods.
