Mongla, Nov 15 (V7N) – The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has promised to fully operationalize the Khanjahan Ali Airport in Rampal and modernize Mongla Port if it comes to power. The announcement came during a local BNP rally at the Mongla Port Workers’ Union grounds on Friday afternoon.
During the rally, Mohammad Zulfikar Ali, the BNP’s candidate for the Mongla-Rampal parliamentary constituency, former mayor of Mongla Port Municipality, and president of Mongla BNP, emphasized the party’s commitment to regional infrastructure development. He stated that the foundation for Khanjahan Ali Airport was laid in 1996 when BNP was in power under the leadership of Begum Khaleda Zia. Extensive construction work had begun at the time, but the project was halted due to a subsequent change in government. The party now pledges that, if elected, the airport will be fully operational.
Zulfikar Ali also highlighted that Mongla Port, established in 1950, has yet to reach its full developmental potential. BNP promises to modernize the port to meet international standards, facilitating better trade and economic growth for the region.
The rally was attended by prominent local BNP leaders, including Upazila BNP President A. Mannan Howlader, Municipal BNP General Secretary Mahbubur Rahman Manik, Organizational Secretary Nasir Talukdar, and Golam Nur Jony.
The event was organized by BNP’s Ward 6 unit to implement the 31-point plan announced by the party’s acting chairman, Tarique Rahman. With this rally, preliminary activities to promote the 31-point plan have been completed across nine municipal wards. BNP leaders and activists will now conduct door-to-door campaigns every morning and evening for two hours, spreading awareness about the plan among residents.
The initiative reflects BNP’s strategy to strengthen local engagement and prepare for upcoming elections, emphasizing both infrastructural and community development.
