Kishoreganj, Nov 29 (V7N) - BNP’s nominated candidate for Kishoreganj-4, freedom fighter Advocate Fazlur Rahman, has delivered a strongly worded message to his supporters, cautioning them against voting for Jamaat-e-Islami. Speaking as the chief guest at a workers’ conference held on Friday evening at Amirganj Bazar in Mriga Union, Itna, Rahman said that casting votes for what he described as “anti-liberation forces” would be an act he could not accept.

Rahman told the gathering that he had recently faced severe criticism, which, in his words, was “beyond anyone’s imagination.” He said he was criticized despite never using derogatory remarks toward Jamaat or other anti-liberation groups.

According to Rahman, some members of Jamaat had recently begun making provocative statements dismissing Bangladesh’s 1971 Liberation War, claiming instead that independence movements occurred in 1947 and 2024. He said he remained silent for several days but could no longer tolerate such distortions of history.

The BNP candidate said he had been labeled “Faza Pagla,” a title he claimed was given by those “opposed to the spirit of independence.” He warned that voting for Jamaat would mean accepting the narrative of those who deny the Liberation War. “If you vote for them, you will receive nothing but my dead body,” he declared.

Emphasizing his role as a freedom fighter, Rahman said he could not stand by silently when attempts were made to undermine the legacy of the Liberation War. He added that if anyone tried to erase the history of 1971, a new form of political resistance would emerge.

Rahman claimed that Jamaat’s candidate would not be able to win in any of the 130 polling centers in the constituency, not even in his own area. “As long as the name Bangladesh exists, Jamaat will never come to state power,” he said.

The event was attended by several local BNP leaders, including Rahman’s wife and former district BNP vice president Umme Kulsum Rekha, former joint secretary Advocate Aminul Islam Ratan, Itna BNP president S.M. Kamal Hossain, general secretary Siddiqur Rahman Swapon Thakur, and others.
