Narayanganj, August 18-- A murder case has been filed against 48 individuals, including former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader, and prominent local politicians, in connection with the death of a young man named Abul Hasan (20) during the anti-discrimination student movement in Narayanganj. The case was lodged on Saturday night by Abul Bashar, the elder brother of the deceased, at the Narayanganj Sadar Model Police Station.

Abul Hasan Komal, the son of Zakir Hossain from Kushiara in Bandar Upazila, was working as a sales representative for a beverage company. He was allegedly shot during a clash between Awami League supporters and student agitators in the Missionpara area of Narayanganj on August 5, 2024. He succumbed to his injuries the following morning at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

The accused in the case include high-profile political figures such as former Foreign Minister Hasan Mahmud, former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan, former State Minister for Information and Technology Junaid Ahmed, and former Jatiya Party MP Salim Osman. Additionally, Shamim Osman's son Ayan Osman and other family members have been named, alongside Narayanganj City Corporation's panel mayor and Awami League leader Abdul Karim. In total, 48 named individuals and 150 to 200 unidentified persons have been implicated in the case.

According to the plaintiff, the clash occurred just hours before the announcement of Sheikh Hasina's resignation on August 5. Bashar alleges that Abul Hasan was shot by Ayan Osman on the orders of Sheikh Hasina and other accused individuals.

Narayanganj Sadar Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abdus Sattar confirmed the filing of the case and stated that the investigation is ongoing. The case has sparked significant attention due to the involvement of several prominent figures in Bangladesh's political landscape.
