"On her initiative, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina added seven colleges to Dhaka University"

Nowfel desires that new universities forgo offering undergraduate programs when they first launch

Education Minister Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury Nowfel new universities shouldn't burden themselves with running undergraduate-level courses at the start of their journey

“Why are the new universities conducting undergraduate courses from the start? Undergraduate courses of the government colleges should be monitored and postgraduate courses will be done separately by the university,” he said.

The minister said this while exchanging views with Bangladesh Bishwabidyalay Parishad, an organization of vice-chancellors of public universities, at the auditorium of the International Mother Language Institute in the capital's Segunbagicha on Monday January 15.

According to the ministry of education, a new university has difficulties in its early years. "From there, we ought to conduct research development using a complete setup."

Nowfel stated that the prime minister requested in 2014 to guarantee academic oversight by uniting all colleges, including centennial institutions, under their respective universities. He recommended that all public university vice-chancellors take action in this area.

Since the Open University is keeping an eye on non-formal education nationwide, why is Chittagong University unable to do the same for Chittagong College? It did once upon a time. If the system could have done it in the past, it should be able to do so now.

"On her initiative, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina added seven colleges to Dhaka University. There might also be difficulties there. We're rising to the occasion. The road was blocked by students. But we stayed put," he said.

"The seven colleges now offer better quality instruction. Why can't other universities focus on academic standard monitoring if Dhaka University can? If the law needs to be changed in these situations, he said the ministry will take that action.

The education minister mentioned the prime minister's directions, stating that all universities are at the district level and that the government institutions in those districts will handle the supervision through their academies.
