Dhaka, Nov 10 (V7N) — Celebrated Bangladeshi actress Afroza Hossain, a prominent figure in the television industry of the 1980s and 1990s, passed away early Sunday morning at 6 am. The news was confirmed by fellow actress Monira Akhtar Mithu through a heartfelt social media post.

Sharing several pictures with Afroza on Facebook, Monira wrote, “Inna Lillahi wa Inna Ilaihi Rajiun. Actress Afroza Hossain is no more. She breathed her last at 6 am today.” In a touching tribute, she added, “Sister, who will I talk to on the phone at three times now? Who will dare me? What will I say to comfort your child Naeem? I am in Tangail; such a wretch I am for not being able to bid you a final farewell. You go; I will come. Go you.”

Afroza Hossain had been battling uterine cancer since September 2022, which later spread to her spinal bones. She was taken to India for treatment, but her condition continued to deteriorate.

Her acting career began with Anand Path Asar, a series produced by Mamunur Rashid in collaboration with UNESCO and the Bangladesh government to promote adult education. Following her debut, she acted in several other works, including Thataru by Mamunur Rashid. She worked alongside notable actors like Zahid Hasan, Mahfuz Ahmed, and Tariq Anam Khan, the latter in Abar Basante, which garnered significant attention.

Afroza Hossain leaves behind a legacy in Bangladeshi television, remembered for her talent and contributions to the cultural landscape. Her loss is deeply felt by the entertainment community and her fans alike.
