New York, Feb 28, (V7N) – For Charli D'Amelio, who skyrocketed to fame as a TikTok sensation, transitioning into the world of Broadway is a thrilling new chapter in her career. At 20 years old, D'Amelio became a social media sensation during the COVID-19 pandemic, gaining millions of followers with her viral dance videos, including iconic routines set to Megan Thee Stallion's "Savage" and Doja Cat's "Say So." Her early success led to collaborations with major brands like Dunkin' Donuts and a reality show on Hulu, cementing her as one of the most recognized faces on the internet.
Now, D'Amelio is taking on a different challenge, performing in the Broadway production of "& Juliet", a musical featuring hit songs from Max Martin. Despite her fame, she is not the star of the show. Instead, she is part of the ensemble, dancing in support of the character Juliet, played by Maya Boyd. This has been a grounding experience for D'Amelio, who never imagined herself in the spotlight but rather envisioned a career as a backup dancer.
"I wanted to be a backup dancer. I wanted to support and be a part of a community. I love being a part of a group that just shows art," she shares. Her love for dance and storytelling through movement has made her transition to Broadway a rewarding one. Being part of a young, talented cast, many of whom are new to New York and fresh out of college, has been especially fulfilling. "It's not just your coworkers. It really is such a family," D'Amelio says.
The friendships she’s developed with her cast members have also had a profound impact on her. Having dealt with the ups and downs of influencer fame, D'Amelio says that the relationships she’s formed in the Broadway cast are based on authenticity and mutual respect. "You're just you. What you are outside of the show means nothing," she reflects.
In her role in "& Juliet," D'Amelio resonates with the character’s journey of self-discovery and identity. "I turned 15 and my life completely turned upside down. I had achieved everything that I had wanted by the time I was 16. And then I was like, 'What do I do now?'" she recalls, drawing a parallel between her own experience and that of the character Juliet, who seeks to define herself beyond societal expectations.
Now, on Broadway, D'Amelio finds herself immersed in a structured, disciplined routine that has brought her a sense of stability and purpose. “When I was in LA, I wasn’t on a very strict schedule. Now my life is very structured, and I love that. That’s personally the type of life that I thrive on,” she says.
D'Amelio’s Broadway journey isn’t just a temporary venture. She recently announced that her time in "& Juliet" will extend into September, and at the urging of her sister, Dixie, she plans to spend the summer in New York. "I just love getting to be myself. I definitely wasn’t that for a while on social media, which I think a lot of people could see," D'Amelio admits, reflecting on how her time in the public eye has shaped her.
From viral TikTok dances to dancing on Broadway’s biggest stage, Charli D'Amelio has found a new way to express herself, one that goes beyond the confines of influencer culture.
