Rezwana Chowdhury Bannya, a well-known singer from Bangladesh, has been selected by the Indian government to receive one of the coveted Padma Shri Awards.

The statement was made by the Indian government on Thursday.

According to the list below, the President has approved the presentation of 132 Padma Awards for the year 2024, including two pair cases (where the Award is counted as one).

The Padma Awards, which are among India's highest civilian honors, are given out in three categories: Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Shri.

Award categories include art, social work, public affairs, science and engineering, trade and industry, medicine, literature and education, sports, and civil service, among other professions and spheres of endeavor.

The Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Shri are given for extraordinary and distinguished service, high-order distinguished service, and distinguished service in any field, respectively.

This year 110 Padma Shri Awards, 17 Padma Bhushan Awards, and 5 Padma Vibhushan Awards on the list. In addition to the eight individuals from the category of Foreigners / NRI / PIO / OCI and the nine posthumous honorees, thirty of the awardees are women.

Each year, the prizes are announced in conjunction with Republic Day.

Every year in March or April, Rashtrapati Bhawan hosts ceremonial occasions where the President of India bestows these Awards.
