Dhaka, Feb 12 (V7N) – Kashem Khan, 17, one of the critically injured victims from the recent attack on the house of former Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque in Gazipur, has died while undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).
According to Md Faruk, in-charge of the DMCH police outpost, Kashem passed away at 3 PM on Wednesday in the hospital’s intensive care unit. His body has been placed in the hospital morgue. Kashem was the son of the late Jamal Hajji from the Board Bazar area under Gazipur Metropolitan.
At least 14 people were injured during a violent confrontation on Friday night in Gazipur city's Dakshinkhan area. The injured were part of a group reportedly attempting to vandalize the residence of former minister AKM Mozammel Haque, targeting Awami League properties. They were ambushed by alleged Awami League cadres while carrying out the attack.
The injured were initially rushed to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital. However, seven of the critically wounded, including Kashem, were later transferred to DMCH due to the severity of their injuries. Kashem is the first fatality reported from this group.
The incident reflects the ongoing political tensions and violence in the region as rival factions clash over party affiliations and historical grievances. Local authorities have yet to confirm any arrests related to the ambush, and investigations are ongoing.
