Dhaka, March 08 (V7N) - The Bangladesh Civil Service (Health) Cadre Specialist Doctors' Forum has called off its strike over pending promotions after receiving assurances from Dr. Sayedur Rahman, special assistant to the Chief Adviser for the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

The nationwide strike began at 10 AM today, with doctors demanding promotions and an end to discrimination in career progression. They had also planned silent protests outside hospitals on March 8, 9, and 10.

Dr. Sayedur Rahman assured the media that within 12 weeks, the government would arrange promotions for 7,500 specialist doctors by creating supernumerary positions for assistant, associate, and professor posts. The first phase of promotions is expected to be completed within five to six weeks.

Following this assurance, the strike has been suspended, but the forum warned that if the promises are not fulfilled within 12 weeks, they will resume the strike.
