DHAKA, June 24 (V7N) – An Australian delegation, led by Australian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Susan Ryle, today paid a courtesy call on Inspector General of Police (IGP) Baharul Alam at the Police Headquarters in Dhaka. The meeting focused on strengthening cooperation between the law enforcement agencies of both nations in combating various forms of transnational crime.
High Commissioner Ryle was joined by Australian Federal Police Representative Matthew Craft during the morning meeting. Discussions centered on collaborative efforts to prevent human trafficking, money laundering, and other criminal activities.
IGP Baharul Alam informed the Australian delegation that Bangladesh Police is actively striving to increase its cooperation with the Australian Federal Police (AFP). The AFP has a strong regional presence and a mandate to combat transnational crimes at their source, often working closely with international partners on issues like human trafficking, drug crime, and financial crime.
The meeting underscores the ongoing commitment of both countries to address shared security challenges. Bangladesh has been a key partner in regional efforts to combat human trafficking and people smuggling, participating in initiatives such as the Bali Process.
Senior police officials from Bangladesh, including Additional IG of Special Branch (SB) Md. Golam Rasul, Additional IG (Crime and Operations) Khondoker Rafiqul Islam, and Additional IG of Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Md. Sibgat Ullah, were also present at the discussion. High Commissioner Ryle's visit follows IGP Baharul Alam's assumption of office on November 20, 2024.
