Dhaka, Nov 29 (V7N) – BNP Chairperson and former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia remains in critical condition at the Coronary Care Unit of Evercare Hospital in Dhaka, where she is undergoing treatment for severe infections affecting her lungs and heart. Her deteriorating health has prompted a steady gathering of BNP leaders and activists outside the hospital since Friday night.
Around 11:15 p.m., BNP Standing Committee member Abdul Moyeen Khan arrived at the hospital, followed shortly by several other senior leaders. Supporters of the party and affiliated organisations waited anxiously outside the hospital, their expressions reflecting deep worry over the 79-year-old leader’s condition.
Khaleda Zia is being treated under the supervision of a medical board that includes local and foreign specialists. Earlier in the day, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said physicians had assessed her condition as “extremely critical.” Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus also requested the nation to pray for her recovery, acknowledging the seriousness of her health complications.
Khaleda Zia has long suffered from multiple chronic illnesses, including heart disease, diabetes, arthritis, liver cirrhosis and kidney-related complications. She was admitted to the hospital last Sunday after experiencing sudden breathing difficulties. Doctors later confirmed the presence of acute infections in both her heart and lungs.
The former prime minister travelled to London on January 7 for advanced medical care and stayed there for 117 days before returning to Dhaka on May 6. Since her return, she has been hospitalised several times due to recurring health crises.
Her current condition has triggered growing concern within the BNP, which continues to monitor developments closely while urging the public to keep her in their prayers.
