Dhaka, Nov 28 (V7N) – Former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia is currently under intensive medical care at the Coronary Care Unit of Evercare Hospital in Dhaka, with her condition described as critical due to complications affecting her lungs and heart.
The Interim Government’s Chief Advisor, Professor Muhammad Yunus, expressed deep concern over her health and urged the nation to pray for her full recovery. “Khaleda Zia’s condition is serious, and we must all pray for her speedy healing. She continues to be a vital inspiration for the country during this period of democratic transition,” Professor Yunus stated.
Professor Yunus has been closely monitoring her health progress, ensuring that all necessary medical support and coordination are provided. Medical authorities, including a board of national and international specialists, are overseeing her treatment, studying her vital parameters, and making decisions accordingly.
Khaleda Zia, aged around 80, has long struggled with chronic illnesses, including heart disease, diabetes, arthritis, liver cirrhosis, and kidney complications. She was admitted to Evercare Hospital after experiencing sudden respiratory distress. Recent evaluations revealed complex infections in her heart and lungs, requiring intensive monitoring and treatment.
Earlier this year, Khaleda Zia traveled to London on January 7 for advanced medical care and remained there for 117 days before returning to Bangladesh on May 6. Since her return, she has been hospitalized multiple times due to ongoing health challenges.
BNP Acting Chairman Tareq Rahman expressed gratitude to Professor Yunus for his compassionate attention to the party chairperson’s health. BNP Senior Joint Secretary Ruhul Kabir Rizvi confirmed the appreciation in a statement on Friday night.
The party highlighted the humanitarian gesture as a reminder of the importance of national leaders’ well-being in maintaining social and political stability, especially during transitional periods in the country’s democracy.
