Dhaka, Sep 13 (V7N)- Police have arrested 32 people so far in connection with a surprise procession allegedly organized by the Awami League, whose activities are currently banned, in the capital’s Gulshan area on Friday (September 12).
Md. Akthar Hossain, deputy commissioner of the Media and Public Relations Division of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), confirmed the arrests.
He said the 32 individuals were arrested during raids conducted at different locations across the capital. Further legal action against those arrested is underway, he added.
According to police, leaders and activists of the banned Awami League and its affiliated organizations staged a surprise procession in Gulshan at around 11:45am on Friday.
When police moved to disperse the procession, the participants allegedly hurled crude bombs, locally known as cocktails, at law enforcement personnel.
Police fired two rounds of rubber bullets to bring the situation under control and dispersed the crowd.
Five crude bombs were subsequently recovered from the scene, while three people were arrested during the initial operation.
A case was filed over the incident on the same day. Police later conducted raids in different parts of the capital, leading to the arrest of 32 people so far.
