Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader stated that former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Benazir Ahmed must return to Bangladesh if found guilty of corruption. Speaking at a press conference on Sunday, Quader affirmed that the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) is investigating the allegations against Benazir Ahmed without government interference.
Quader responded to BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir’s claim that Benazir fled abroad with government assistance, saying, “Investigations are ongoing. No one placed him on a plane. Such accusations should not be made without evidence.”
The ACC has summoned Benazir Ahmed for questioning on June 6, following the High Court’s directive to submit a progress report on the investigation into his alleged illicit assets.
