Paris, Jun 08 (V7N) – Alexander Zverev has captured his maiden Grand Slam title after winning a thrilling five-set battle in the men's singles final of the French Open on Sunday.

The German star defeated Flavio Cobolli in an intense contest to claim the championship, ending years of frustration on tennis' biggest stages. At the age of 29, Zverev finally secured his first Grand Slam crown after 41 appearances in major tournaments.

Zverev made a dominant start to the match, comfortably taking the opening set 6-1. However, Cobolli responded strongly and fought back to win the next two sets 6-4 and 7-6, putting the German under immense pressure.

Despite battling cramps and committing several costly double faults, Zverev showed remarkable resilience to regain control of the match. He claimed the fourth set 6-4 before cruising to a 6-1 victory in the deciding set.

The emotional victory ended the disappointment of three previous Grand Slam final defeats for Zverev. After converting championship point, the German collapsed onto the clay court in tears as he celebrated the biggest achievement of his career.

The triumph also marked a significant milestone for German tennis. Zverev became the first German male player to win a Grand Slam title since Boris Becker captured the Australian Open title in 1996, ending a 30-year wait for a German men's Grand Slam champion.

Having previously fallen short in three major finals, Zverev finally broke through to lift his first Grand Slam trophy and write his name into German tennis history.
