The Arakan Army (AA), an armed insurgent group in Myanmar, has asserted responsibility for the deaths of approximately 80 soldiers belonging to the junta forces in Ramri, a town situated in Myanmar's Rakhine State bordering Bangladesh. The organization alleges that these fatalities occurred during clashes over the past three days.

According to reports from Myanmar media outlet Irrawaddy, the junta regime dispatched fresh troops to Ramree in Rakhine last Saturday with the objective of capturing the city and engaging in combat against the Arakan Army. The deployment consisted of 120 soldiers transported via four helicopters.

The Arakan Army asserts that a significant portion of these troops met their demise during intense battles over the subsequent two days. Reportedly, 60 junta soldiers lost their lives in Saturday's skirmish, followed by an additional 20 casualties on Monday. In the aftermath, the Arakan Army purportedly seized substantial quantities of arms and ammunition while retrieving the bodies of the deceased soldiers.

Meanwhile, the rebel faction known as the Palaung State Liberation Front (PSLF) has declared its intention to establish governance in seven towns located in Myanmar's Northern Shan State within the coming year.

The events unfold against the backdrop of Myanmar's political turmoil, which commenced following the military coup on February 1, 2021. The coup saw the ousting of Aung San Suu Kyi's ruling National League for Democracy (NLD), which had secured a significant victory in the parliamentary elections held on November 8, 2020. Subsequently, a state of emergency was declared for one year.

Since seizing power, Myanmar's junta forces have been accused of perpetrating widespread human rights abuses, resulting in the deaths of at least 4,500 civilians and the imprisonment of 25,000 individuals. Additionally, brutal attacks by the junta forces have led to the destruction of at least 78,000 homes across Myanmar.

In response to the junta government's actions, various pro-democracy organizations within Myanmar, including the Arakan Army, have initiated resistance efforts. The Brotherhood Alliance, a coalition comprising three anti-junta armed groups, has asserted that the junta forces are encountering setbacks in their operations in Rakhine State.
