Washington D.C., Aug 02 (V7N) – In a dramatic escalation of rhetoric and military posturing, U.S. President Donald Trump has ordered the deployment of two nuclear submarines to "appropriate locations" in response to what he called "foolish and provocative" threats from former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev.

Trump made the announcement on Friday through a post on his social media platform, Truth Social, without disclosing the submarines’ intended destinations or specific mission objectives.

“In light of Medvedev’s dangerous and irresponsible remarks, I have directed the immediate deployment of two of our most powerful nuclear submarines to locations deemed appropriate by our military command,” Trump wrote.

The move comes after Trump warned earlier in the week that Russia had "10-12 days" to agree to a ceasefire in Ukraine, threatening increased sanctions if no progress was made. Medvedev, currently Deputy Chairman of Russia’s Security Council, responded with harsh criticism, prompting Trump’s decision to escalate the U.S. military posture.

Despite the public nature of Trump’s announcement, both the U.S. Navy and the Pentagon have declined to comment, citing security protocols and the sensitivity of operational deployments.

The deployment marks a significant shift in tone amid the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war and is likely to draw strong reactions from Moscow. Military analysts have noted that U.S. nuclear submarine deployments are typically kept classified, and Trump’s public statement may further complicate U.S.-Russia relations.

Meanwhile, international observers are watching closely for Russia’s response, as tensions between Washington and Moscow continue to intensify.
