Gaza City, May 16 (V7N) – Israel has claimed that senior Hamas commander Izz al-Din al-Hajjaj was killed in an airstrike in Gaza on Friday.
According to reports published by the BBC on Saturday (May 16), Israeli authorities said al-Hajjaj was among the planners of the October 7, 2023 attacks carried out by Hamas.
Strike on Residential Building
Israeli sources claimed that the operation targeted a residential building known as Al-Mutaz in Gaza City. According to the report, three missiles were fired simultaneously from two directions, triggering a massive fire in the building.
Israel further alleged that after al-Hajjaj was injured in the initial strike, another attack targeted a vehicle attempting to flee the area with him inside.
Casualties Reported
At least seven Palestinians were reportedly killed in the attack, while several others sustained injuries.
Hamas did not immediately comment on Israel’s claims regarding the death of Izz al-Din al-Hajjaj.
The latest strike comes amid continuing conflict and military operations in Gaza, where civilian casualties and humanitarian concerns remain severe.
