Washington, Aug 14 (V7N)- The US Central Command (CENTCOM) has rejected reports claiming that seven sailors were killed in a fight aboard the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln, calling the reports “false claims.”
In a statement posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, on Thursday (August 13), CENTCOM said several media outlets have also recently reported an increase in suicides aboard the US warship. The command described those reports as misinformation.
According to CENTCOM, the USS Abraham Lincoln has recorded an 84.4 percent re-enlistment rate among its sailors, one of the highest rates among US Navy aircraft carriers.
CENTCOM said the sailors and Marines of the Abraham Lincoln Carrier Strike Group have continued their duties after more than 260 days at sea, conducting around 10,000 flights and employing approximately 1.5 million pounds of munitions.
The US military command also said that no service member has died aboard the aircraft carrier.
However, CENTCOM noted that on August 3, a sailor who fell into the sea was quickly located and safely rescued.
The command said spreading misinformation about the Abraham Lincoln's lengthy and important deployment is unfair to US service members and their families.
CENTCOM urged the public to rely on verified information regarding the activities and condition of US military personnel and vessels deployed in the region.
