Plateau District, 13 July – A tragic incident occurred on Friday, July 12, when a two-storey school building, The Saint's Academy, collapsed during classes, resulting in the deaths of at least 22 students. Over 150 students were present at the time, and many remain trapped under the rubble.
Nigeria's National Emergency Management Agency has confirmed the deployment of rescue and health workers, as well as security forces, to the scene. Rescue efforts are ongoing, with heavy machinery being used to free those trapped.
This collapse is part of a troubling pattern in Nigeria, where poor infrastructure has led to numerous building failures. In the past two years alone, more than a dozen similar incidents have occurred in the country. The incident highlights the urgent need for improved building standards and regulations to prevent future tragedies.
