Kolkata, August 19  — Tension rose in Kolkata as doctors protested the police summons issued to two of their colleagues, Dr. Kunal Sarkar and Dr. Subarna Goswami, in connection with spreading alleged fake news on social media related to the RG Kar tax case.

The two doctors were summoned under the Information Technology Act and Section 35 of the Indian Penal Code. The incident sparked outrage among the city's medical professionals, who took to the streets to express their discontent.

On Monday, doctors from various parts of the city marched towards Lalbazar, the headquarters of the Kolkata Police, in protest against the summons. In response, police barricaded roads in an attempt to halt the march, leading to a standoff between the protesters and law enforcement.

The protests come in the wake of ongoing controversies surrounding the RG Kar tax case, which has drawn significant public attention and debate. The incident underscores the growing tension between medical professionals and authorities over the handling of the case and the broader implications for freedom of speech in the region.
