Baghdad, Sep 07 (V7N)— After repeated attacks by Iran-backed resistance forces, the United States and Iraq have reached an agreement to withdraw US-led coalition forces from Iraq. The phased withdrawal is set to begin in September 2025, with all foreign troops expected to leave Iraq by 2026, according to Middle East Monitor.

A senior US official confirmed the agreement to *Reuters*, stating that the only step remaining is an official announcement. The initial joint statement was delayed due to ongoing tensions in the region, particularly due to the Israeli military's actions in Gaza and the subsequent unrest.

Farhad Alauddin, the Iraqi Prime Minister's foreign affairs advisor, mentioned that strategic discussions with Washington have concluded, and Iraq now aims to enhance military, security, and economic ties with coalition member countries. There are currently around 2,500 coalition troops stationed at US bases in Iraq, many of which have been targeted by Iranian-backed groups since the escalation of the Hamas-Israel conflict in October 2023. This situation contributed to the US decision to withdraw its forces from the country.
